SINGAPORE, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Tuesday as the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went down 0.38 percent, or 11.66 points, to close at 3,034.31.

A total of 1.8 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 950.7 million Singapore dollars (about 690.41 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 185 to 179.

The STI index went down 0.76 percent, or 23.2 points, to close at 3,045.97 on Monday. Enditem
