WASHINGTON, March 17 (Xinhua) -- James Comer, chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, on Tuesday issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi to appear for a deposition as part of the panel's probe into the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Following a committee-wide vote, Comer issued the subpoena to Bondi to appear for a deposition on the Department of Justice's handling of the Epstein investigation and compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the committee said on X.

In a letter to Bondi, Comer said that the committee is reviewing the "possible mismanagement" of the federal government's investigation of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, the circumstances and subsequent investigations of Epstein's death.

On March 4, the committee voted to approve a motion authorizing a subpoena to the attorney general for a deposition. In accordance with that directive, the deposition is scheduled for April 14.

Bondi is under intense scrutiny for her handling of the Epstein files, as the Trump administration's release of the documents has sparked widespread skepticism and criticism.

The administration delayed the release of Epstein-related documents for months, heavily redacted numerous files, and the latest disclosures did not include all materials.
