MACAO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition exploring the resonant history and aesthetic memory of Macao firecrackers, marking the centenary of the founding of the Iec Long Firecracker Factory, opened on Wednesday at the Sands Gallery in Taipa.
According to the organizer, the exhibition, featuring more than 400 exhibits, offers a narrative of the century-long history and cultural significance of Macao's firecracker industry. Visitors can view original manuscripts, firecracker-making tools, and packaging labels on display throughout the gallery.
The event was described as a cross-sector collaboration between academia and industry. Ung Vai Meng, the exhibition's curator and a distinguished professor at the Macau University of Science and Technology, said that firecracker manufacturing was once one of Macao's most important traditional industries. "I hope the exhibition will transport audiences across time to hear the echoes of a century-long era that belongs uniquely to Macao," he added.
The efforts of those who contributed to the exhibition "have rekindled the lives and memories of the old Iec Long Firecracker Factory, offering visitors a moving and meaningful connection to this important chapter of Macao's history," Catarina Cottinelli da Costa, a Portuguese artist living in Macao, told Xinhua after touring the exhibition.
The event will run through Aug. 31. ■
